D.E. – Hopeful today for what the future holds for him
At age 17, D.E. became emancipated, and following in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. There, he served nine years of active-duty service, including multiple deployments, before being discharged after several injuries left him partially disabled.
His transition back to civilian life was extremely hard for him. Although he didn’t recognize it at the time for what it was, he had PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
L.J. – A life transformed for this Marine Corps veteran
After three years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, L.J. faced a daunting challenge-transitioning back to civilian life. He found himself in a cycle of low-paying jobs and unable to save for his future.
With his health failing and unable to work, he was forced into retirement and became very worried about how he would get by on his Social Security benefits alone without any savings in the bank.
